The Lord gave Nephi the keys of the sealing power: to be
able to seal on earth things pertaining to God’s will. Nephi asked God to bring a famine upon the
land so that the people, who had become wicked again, would not die by the
sword. The famine came and the people
repented. Then the rains came as Nephi
unsealed the heavens. The people
rejoiced but could not maintain their penitence very long. They did not mend their ways despite all they
had witnessed in terms of the miraculous sealing priesthood powers of their
prophet.
