Alma 38 Bridal All Your Passions

Shiblon, the steady and faithful one, the middle child, the good example; every family hopefully has a Shiblon or two.  Nevertheless, Shiblon received strict warnings from his father, Alma:  “See that ye are not lifted up unto pride; yea, see that ye do not boast in your own wisdom, nor of your much strength.  Use boldness, but not overbearance; and also see that ye bridal all your passions, that ye may be filled with love (not lust); see that ye refrain from idleness.  Smart, handsome, physically imposing, and passionate, Shiblon could have easily become prideful.  Alma saw in his son the need for temperance, humility, and restraint.  He was pleased with the good example he had set for his younger brother, Corianton, and admonished him to continue to keep the commandments and endure to the end.
