Abish is the hero of this chapter of Lehi’s children’s saga.
She reaches down and touches the queen’s hand and lifts her up. She is undaunted in her courage! She is true to her conversion to Christ. The “Abish Touch” is a metaphor for how we should
have the courage to physically put ourselves in a position to do good. Like Esther of the Old Testament, she rises
to her moment, the moment for which she came into the world. She saves her king and queen, who in turn
will open the door for a huge Lamanite conversion wherein thousands of people
are saved from their sins and freed from false traditions.
In describing King Lamoni’s conversion, Alma states: “…the
dark veil of unbelief was being cast away from his mind, and the light which
did light up his mind, which was the light of the glory of God, which was a
marvelous light of his goodness—yea, this light had infused such joy into his
soul, the cloud of darkness having been dispelled, and the light of everlasting
life was lit up in his soul, yea, he knew that this had overcome his natural
frame, and he was carried away in God.”
And he adds, “…their hearts had been changed; that they had no more
desire to do evil.”
